Escorted away from douglas bay by a pod of about 50 dolphins K3 headed south to catch fresh Launce before heading to Castletown in search of a few Pollack.fishing at Castletown was slow although Pollack were there to catch.Coalies made an appearancewith the largest around the 4lb mark.I did manage to catch a Cod here which was just about sizeable ,but it went straight back in order to fight another day.The heaviest Pollack taken here was by Micheal at it tipped the scales at 7lb.2ozs.(It does have to be said however that soon after Micheal had got this fish HE did want to move on to our next destination a full 1/2 hr ahead of schedule.).
On steaming away to our next destination which was about 17 miles offshore i spent the time cooking bacon baps out on the deck such was the calmness of the day,as fishing in "T" shirts in november does not happen too often.
On our arrival at our final fishing spot of the day the 1st drift was used as a sighter with just pouting being taken.the next drift "bang" i was straight into our intended target of Ling. This was the 1st of the day and proved to be my only one wieghing in at 8lb2ozsand was caught on modified day light feathers. All rigs that were being used up until then had all been declared,so it came as no suprise that micheal had sneaked down a strimmer line pennal rig with a whole live Pouting on which landed him a ling of 11lb .2ozs,(weldone Micheal) and i had been.
We continued to catch lots of Pouting and Poor codalong with Dog fish and the occasional red Gurnard. pollack showed up for a breif momentas the tide started to turn and gave me my largest of the day at around the 6lb mark.During all this Micheal managed to catch 3 more Ling with the largest around the 5lb mark.Just to add insult to injury he also caught a Bull Huss of about the 4lb mark aswell. Funny though how we did MISS the wreck on one or two drifts though.
The day on the whole had been glorious and was a 1st for us this year fishing in such calm conditions, all i all we managed to catch 11 different species with out trying and all were sizeable, good job we did not have a £ on this aswell as Micheal took the species hunt 11-9by virtue of the huss and the only whiting of the day.Although £2 went Micheals way i still remain £1 up on the year.
Species list for the days fishing was : POLLACK,COALFISH,LAUNCE,DOG FISH,WHITING,POUTING,POOR COD,LING, BULL HUSS,RED GURNARD AND COD.Weldone Micheal on your victory but don't bank on it happening again soon, all rigs MUST be declared next time.
