Merit 1 and Kirsty 111 both decided that the weather was good enough to have a session in the bay of Douglas mainly for Squid and mackerel on Merits behalf and although Micheal wanted Mackerel to freeze down for the winter he also wanted a Cod for his supper.
merit 1 with Skip Bridson along with top crewman lee Graham and top nutter sean stayed in the bay area with good results catching some mackie and about twenty squid. wilst this was going on Micheal and i headed to the Santon mark to try for both mackie and launce but with no success what so ever. We therefore head back to an old Cod mark on the way back to the bay but all we caught was about five Mackie.
Sod this we said and headed for the bay of douglas and began fishing for Cod. What we did get was not alot until the tide turned, just a couple more mackie and the the Dog fish started to arrive. We thought that we would also tempt some gurnards here but to no avail. It was late into the session here and i then got the now familiar rattle of what i thought was another doggie, having picked up the rod and starting to wind up i new that this was no doggie and when the fish broke the surface of the water all i could here was "F-ING HELL " and "SPAWNY T--T", nothing like the "WELDONE" that i always greet him with when he gets a pool fish.
The fish it has to be said was no monster but was in size and has now gone to be covered in curry sauce at micheal house so not for the first time this season i have had to catch his tea for him. With this i was told we were going to be out till last knockings giving micheal every oppotunity to catch a larger cod.
Merit1 came on the radio and bid us fairwell as they had,had enough and were heading back into port and probably to the pub knowing skip Bridson. We did stay out to the death but no more cod were caught although i did manage to catch a very juvinile Bull Huss just to add insult to injury to Micheal as he was beaten all hands up today,i got the pool fish, had the most species, (Cod,Mackie,Doggies and a Bull Huss.),and by my reconing i also had bag wieght.but no doubt he will try and claim that i didn't.
All in all it was just nice to get out on the boat and catch a few fish, the conditions were not too bad with a "slight" bit of a chop on,but at least the rain stayed off.
