After making the decision on sunday morning not to go out 6 miles in a 17' flat bottom boat in a quite snotty south westerly, we decided to head to port st mary for a mid afternoon launch. With the sea flattenning off all the time we went straight to the chasms for bait and were soon into macky and herring, after a few drifts looking for small fish we decided to anchor up looking for bigger stuff. Within 5 mins I had a ling in the boat which was followed quickly by a variety of fish, cod , dogs, bollan, cuckoo, callig and the highlight of the day was a boat first an estimated 25lb plus conger! I've caught lots of callig and tope etc that give a good fight but when the conger was half way up and decided it was going back again there was no stopping it , and that happened 3 times. Tiger successfully netted it and we had an angry conger thrashing about the bottom of the boat. Didnt have a proper camera with me, must sort that out for next week, but took photo with phone and if i can figure out how to post it I will although it doesnt do the fish justice. So whilst dissappointing not to get out to fish the comp, it was a better decision in the end to wait for the sea to calm and launch from PSM.
The harbour master was telling us that next weekend is going to be bedlam in PSM due to the queenie festival etc, any shore launched boats will have to park their trailers by the golf course and the harbour is going to be busy so bare that in mind for 2 day comp
