This comp was run as a Ten Species drawn out of a hat and was zoned from Douglas lighthouse down to langness light house. The ten species were: BALLANWRASSE,POLLOCK,COD,CUCKOOWRASSE,DOGFISH,LING,MACKEREL,POUTING,RED GURNARD AND TOPE. with Cod and mackerel being the Pool fish and heaviest mackie deciding the winner if it was a draw.
With Trampie leading the way back out of the harbour Falusi11 had a guest crewman in the shape of Lee's dad Paul Graham on board who gave us a lesson in what feather woerk best to get that all important bait Mackie.
We went down to santon in search of them and we were instantly rewarded with enough fish to see us through the day. This had now turned into a five hr comp and and the preasure was on. Fishing it has to be said was quite slow, but when you are targeting certain species perseverance is the name of the game.
Fishing at Bear rock several drifts resulted in Ballan Wrasse and Pollock being caught along with the target fish of Ling and Cod. From here it was accross to the Afton wreck in search of a pouting which in the end turned out to be too elusive on the day for both boats. Trampie had by now gone off to the Port Grenaugh Marks in search of Ling,Cod,Ballan and Cuckoo Wrasse.
Falusi11 made the decision to move out to "MY" Tope mark in a quest for one along with the ever present Dogfish. The doggies were about in good numbers but the tope were not. I had two nice Bull Huss and a nice SpurDog but none of us could get a Tope.
At this stage of the comp the weather was so nice that every body was in T-shirts and the sea was flat. With time running out best on the day was given and both boats returned to Douglas harbour to see who had come out on top. The winner on this occasion was Falusi11 with 8 species and trampie had 6.
Simon Reed fishing on Trampie took both pools with a Cod of 3lb.3.5ozs and a Mackie of 1lb.7.125ozs.
