The Bella vista hotel Cohb Harbour ,Cork.



Five keen anglers set of from the Isle of man at 7am on a flight to liverpool and onward to Cork with a taxi transfer and by 12am we were taking charge of our self drive boats .

Both boats set off to go in search of Mackeral only to find that the mouth of the harbour was quite choppy and not fit to go any further .We did get Mackie though and then went to the Blonde Ray mark ,although not really the right tide we decided to fish the mark and caught a veriety of species from dabs to doggies ,whiting and plaice .

We moved from here to a Bass mark where the only man to get off the mark here was Micheal .

DAY 2

It was decided the night before that if we could we would push off out to deep water and hopefully get a chance at the blue shark . however the wind was blowing and the boats struggled to make decenctheadway and a some stages we were only able to do 6 knotts. Many was the time when niether of the boats could see each other as the swells kept coming thick and fast.We did eventually make it out to the Lings mark and start fishing .



Calig and ling were caught along with the odd coalie and dog fish .Out here though Cod was the next big target and several were being caught on Merit 1.Fishing with baited feathers i got a really nice bend in my "cane" rod and slowly but surely brought a fish to the surface. Micheal said F*****G hell that a nice Cod and it was as when we got back to dry land it wieghed in at 11lb.8.875ozs , not long after this Micheal Cowin onboard Merit 1 brought up another very decent cod which he thought was Larger but it bwas nearly 1/2lb lighter than mine back on dry land .We started to make our way back and stopped at another mark renowned for its cod but to no avail as the only thing caught here was a handful of whiting .

DAY3

Bonde Rays and Bass were going to be the targets on this day ,but no blondes were caught but cuckoo wrasse,bollan wrasse,dabs plaice and whiting were caught .





The next mark we went to was for bass and it was not long before Micheal was beaming at getting one on the hook ,the 1st of three,i onthe other hand had no luck what so ever .

DAY 4.

The weather dictated that we could not go that far out an so was spent high up the harbour fishing for bass .the wind was blowing a proper hooly and when the rain came it came with such force that it flattened the water for a short period of time .Lee and Micheal on Merit 1 had Bass to about 4.5lbwhilst all i could get were bollan wrasse and a nice flounder of about the 1lb mark .

DAY 5

Only Micheal and Lee went out Sunday morning for a couple of hrs whilst Gary Micheal and my self had a lazy morning packing and just chilling out .Lee caught a nice bass Wlist Micheal Caught or "mugged a mullet by the pontoon where the boats were kept .



With are time up here in Cobh we were satis fied with the knowledge that this time the winner was the weather although it was unanimous that non of us would ever buy a Warrior boat ,we had tested these little 175 warriors to the limit as our host Kevin did not believe the distances that we had gone in the search of fish or braved the sea elements as we did .

We all said that it would be hard with the conditions but in total we caught 17 different species between us which i feel in hind sight was pretty good going as we were not there for a species hunt .

FISH CAUGHT WERE

BALLAN AND CUCKOO WRASSE,POLLACK,COALFISH,COD,DAB,FLOUNDER,GREY GURNARD,HERRING,BASS,MULLET,LAUNCE,DOG FISH,LING,MACKERAL,PLAICE AND WHITING .

We all would like to thank our host Kevin and his staff at the hotel for looking after us and making us feel so welcome . The locals were all freindy and a nice quiet drop of the black stuff went down occasionally by those who drank it ,lager was the other tipple along with bulmers cider .

Looks nice and calm on those photos but that they are only from the channel at the mouth of the harbour ! The reason why there are none from out further is that when the waves are breaking over the top of the boats and you are holding on for dear life photos are not high on the agenda

Robson Green can shove his 'Extreme Fishing' up his ass, we did it hardcore !

Nice report on the fishing although no mention of Kirsty III losing a rod, nor a certain someone losing their specs, or Michael fighting a 'Gary' fish for a while then having to play in a sack of rubbish for 10 minutes

And thats before we even start on the night time stories such as..........................................

good trip pity about the weather ! someone else can pick where we go next year! hopefully with some fish ! the cod was nice with currry!!!!!!!!!

But you have done it so nicely chippy ,and yes the cod was nice with the curry and chips .

Why the unanimous verdict on the warriors? sounds like they are pretty sturdy boats

Sturdy they may be but no shelter in those conditions was not totally ammusing ,having said that i almost forgot to thank gary for getting the banner made and for the effort he put in arranginging flights and transfers ,cheers Gary .

never been so wet on a boat since the last time i was on wicked hen ! They need a wiper cos you cant see f--k all out the window! you then need to look over the top to see, then you get wet! ok in a flat see but will never have one.

Good report lads, least you managed to get some fishing done....Dam unlucky with the weather!!!
Perhaps some would be interested in tagging along for a trip to skjervoy, norway for 2013????? You will be sick of Cod after that!

Sounds like you had a good trip though

What it did do is give the owner several heart attacks ,but i does prove what reral rough weather small boats can get out in .
