One of the benefits of being self employed is being able to say f***k it I'm having the afternoon off to go fishing. With an evening of Callig and Ling to look forward to Corrie c left Douglas at 2.30 to catch the bait, relentless skippered by ali and crewed by fishy junior were meeting us in castletown bay later on. On route down south we stopped off for an hour at grianagh and had dogs, cuckoos, Ballen, Codling, coalies and mackerel but still havnt had the elusive bream yet
used up all the worms we had then headed south to the warts to catch the eels. The sea was like a mill pond at the warts and we had about 70 eels in an hour. Time to go callig fishing.
We met relentless in castletown bay and after handing over some eels we started to fish, there were loads of fish in the 5 - 7 lb bracket and Ali had a couple around 8lb, we had decided at the start to have £5 a head for heaviest callig and heaviest other and only callig over 7lb would qualify so Ali was looking good, he also had a cod over 3lb looking to clean up.
At the top of the tide the fishing died off with the run so corrie c went to another mark in the bay in search of the fish and this proved quite fruitful. Straight back into the fish again with yours truly catching a 9lb 4 oz Callig ( seasons best ) , we then ran out of live eels and with 20mins to go before we were due to head home I dropped a dead eel deep in search of a ling and was rewarded with a 7lb 9oz ling ( another seasons best) Met Ali back in the bay showed him the pictures of the winning fish and relieved relentless of the dosh
I did however make a schoolboy error in going fishing in just a t shirt and shorts , by 8 o clock I was frrrreeezing
wont do that again
