After an on/off nightmare of a housemove for the last 3 months (which is ongoing), and the arrival of my new little cabin boy a month ago, the Wicked Hen finally set to sea on Wednesday for our first trip of the year.
We were met with glorious flat calm seas with the sun almost threatening to break through the mist. One drift at the back of Douglas Head gave us plenty of mackie and a quick stop off at Santon meant we had plenty of eels for a mess around aswell.
We only had a few hours to play with so we unsurprisingly decided to try our regular 'goto' marks around the Santon/Pt Grenaugh area. With hindsight we should have been a bit more adventurous and gone elsewhere as the fishing around here was leak poor to say the least! Biggest fish of the day was a cod of just over 2lb. I also managed to catch calig, coalie, and a ling. Skipper managed to catch the bottom and lose loads of gear
It was good to get out at last but the day was summed up by the fact that the sun came out for the first time just as we rounded the breakwater to come back into the harbour.
