The much anticipated trip had finally come around. This was the first time that Ronald, Paul and Tony had fished Norway, so I hoped it would live up to their expectations??
We left the Island on the 23rd May, had to do an over night stay in Gatwick to catch the flight to Norway in the morning. Paul drove down from Newcastle and we met him in the bar at the hotel for a drink or too
Spent all day Tuesday traveling, 2 flights later we got to Tromso, where we caught the ferry to Skjervoy. Arrived at the camp at about 10.30/11pm. One of the fish camp workers sorted all of our paper work out for the boat that night for us, save us a bit of time in the morning.
Wednesday. First port of call was around to the town to go to the supermarket to get the shopping in for the week. We finally got out fishing, didn't venture too far up the coast because of the brisk wind. We stopped up the side of the Island Laukoy. Paul got 2 small Halibut to the shad, Tony got a Cod of 15lb and my self and Ronnie, a couple of small cod. We moved up a bit further. Found some more consistent fishing, produced a couple more cod into double figures, my self getting the best of 18lb. There was a small pod of dolphins feeding around us, which was nice to watch.
Fished that evening, just south of the island. loads of coalies and cod to 9lb, hard work to hold the ground because of increasing winds!

Thursday. Wind, snow and highs of 3C. didn't get out until the after noon. Headed south of the island, down a fjord at the side of Kagen to get out of the wind1 We had steady fishing, couple of cod reaching the 10lb mark, I had good sport with coalies on the spinning rod too.
Paul out of the blue, set the benchmark, got smashed on the way down, resulting in a cracking cod of 38lb!

Friday. Weather had settled nicely. We decided to go for the long trip to the top of the island Arnoy. Fishing was out of this world, Cod after Cod after Cod all between 10-20lb. I broke the retinue, hit into something which felt a more frisky than the Cod. Convinced it wasn't nothing big, my mind changed when it was about half way up it decided to wake up and head back to the bottom. It turned out to be a halibut of about 36-37lb. The cod kept coming in thick and fast, it became impossible to even get to the bottom. The coalie then made an appearance! spinning rods come out and things got a bit silly lol
hitting a 20lb coalie on the spinning rod is something else!

Saturday. It wasn't as nice as the day before, bit windier and cold. We headed up to the same ground as yesterday. The fishing was much the same. Cod after Cod, in the 10-20lb bracket, a few went over 20lb with Ronnie getting the best of 25lb. As the drift went on, the coalies seem to turn up in force and yet again things got a bit silly when the spinning rods came out. I hooked into three coalies at once, the top one was about 5lb, the second over 20lb and the third 7lb, what a laugh!! Hit some nice haddock up to 6-7lb, made a lovely tea!

Sunday. Weather was stunning, like a mill pond. Headed out to the same area again. Fishing was much the same, Cod,Cod,Cod,Coalfish, Coalfish, couldn't get to the bottom. Located some better fish under a flock of birds hitting bait on the surface, all fish were over 20lb, biggest 27lb cod.
After 9 hrs fishing, I was still feeling keen for more. went and done a bit of spinning of the rocks by the accomodation, after tea. Had 10 Codling to 4lb and 2 coalies in a hour, lost my spinner to a better fish diving behind a rock!

Monday. Was the last day out on the boat. Fished until lunch, only got a few cod at the back of the island, spent more time cleaning the boat up! Got the boat cleaned up and took all the gear off, fueled her back up and handed it back over to the camp. Got everything packed and ready for the start of the journey home on Tuesday.
The fishing was 10 times better than last year, even though last year was still very good compared to hear, this years trip we caught so many quality fish, nearly every day!
I am considering booking another trip for next year, want to try and get a group of 9-12 together. 2 cabins, 3 boats. Wouldn't mind trying a trip in July/August, better chance of the bigger halibut!
