NOT THE GREATEST DAY OUT Empty
PostSubject: NOT THE GREATEST DAY OUT    NOT THE GREATEST DAY OUT Icon_minitimeSun Aug 17, 2014 3:49 am

Went out on Trampie today crewing for John with Woody, Neil and Dazz over for the weekend from Liverpool. Although not the best of days out there the weather was good enough to get out and allow them to wet a line in Manx waters. These lads have been coming to the Isle of Man regularly for the last few years and each time that they have come the weather has taken a turn for the worse.

However Mackeral were very easy to catch today at the rear of Douglas head with all three anglers quickly gathering enough bait for the days fishing.

John Maddrell our Skipper set off for our first mark down by langness where on arrival there was no shortage of Codlings being caught on each drift.

From here we moved a little further back towards Douglas where alll the gurnards came out to play along with several Pollack.

True to the forcast the weather did continue to get worse, but it was still very fishable if slightly chilly with the wind cutting into you. The ground at our 2nd mark took its toll on several sets of gear but fish still kept being caught.

We made one final move back to Douglas Bay where more mackeral were caught along with Codling and Red Gurnards.

The wind did appear to be getting even fresher and so with our time up John headed back into port and alight the 3 lads at the Battery Pier. The real highlight of the day for one of our guests was a Mackie being caught which wieghed in at 2.2lb and was a new P/B for Woody.

I stated before that it was not the best of days for fishing but in this session 6 species were caught and they were:

COD, MACKIE, POLLACK, RED, GREY AND TUB GURNARDS.
