This comp will be a comp with boundries , no further north than Clay Head and no futher south than Derbyhaven ,as usual if we have to we will alter on the day .This is a Ray + 5 species drawn out of the hat on the day.Booking in will be at 11am at the battery pier ,with fishing from 12noon til 6pm .All boats will be most welcome to join in ,the entry fee is £10 per person with a guarenteed 1st prize of £100 with a 100% pay out on the day .Lets hope that the weather will favour us and let us get this comp on .

who would win if a boat had the 5 species drawn but no ray and another had a ray plus 3 species? Realistically speaking a ray is unlikely with these boundries, if the comp is based around catching a ray why dont we fish in laxey and the north and pick 5 species that we know we can catch in the area. That way we can have a good crack at a ray whilst fishing for other stuff at the same time. The ray mark gives alsorts of species without moving , tope all the gurnards, dabs whiting, spurs, huss, dogs, smoothies etc etc.

I always thought that 5 beats 4. IF and i say IF the rest of the boats and captains wish to do this then who am i to stand in your way ,i personally have had no trouble catching a ray off the 6 mile mark at this time of year ,but as always i will listen to what every body would prefer to do .If you can't catch all typesof species within these boundries i feel there is something wrong ,if you all prefer to fish laxey area so be it ,i just hope then that a bream is pulled out of the hat then there wil be something else for some one to moan at ,because if we fish laxey the boundries will be north of Onchan head excluding the paddle wheel and no further north than Ramsey bay .

Its a FISHING COMP not a CATCHING COMP.

Jamie, are you sure Derbyhaven to Clay Head will give you enough area to be able to anchor up ?

Making things more of challenge, makes it a whole lot better in my book. The end of the day, it is being out there fishing and having a laugh. It seems too easy to fish in your comfort zones, rather than trying something a little bit different.

I didnt understand the significance of Ray + 5 thats all, there is obviously no significance and the ray is just like its been drawn out of the hat. Where Im coming from is if you can still win the comp without catching the ray you can fish for the other 5 species and not waste all day trying to catch a ray. ( never caught one any where other than laxey )
No Cam not got a boat yet , have to buy a bathroom and kitchen first I am hopefully making a guest appearance on corrie c, weather permitting.

I must admit i wrongly thought that a "Ray + 5 species comp" meant that if you caught a ray but no one else did you would win, irrespective of how many of the other five species the other boats have caught. I know some others anglers who thought the same also.
Saying that I think I prefer the fact that you don't "have" to catch a ray!
Now that's cleared up let's go for it

The more i think about it the better it gets. What do you do? Put the time in trying to catch a ray or gamble that no one catches a ray and make sure you get 5 decent fish.

We all know that you can get rays in this area. We all know people who have caught rays in this area. From a personal point of view I've fished a shit load in this area and have never seen one caught! First time for everything though and we've got as much chance as the next boat

Yeah i once caught two double figure ones of his boat ,did not have a £1 bet on on that day
