Well the gate went down in Douglas harbour this morning and for those of us who made it in last night it was off for another few hours of fishing fun. First stop was for Sandeels as a small session was on the tasks for today. The comp was another species hunt and revenge was on my mind for the drubbing of yesterday. Not many Lauce about , but enough were taken to give us some sport later on. We had a fish at a mark off Castletown and caught plenty of Cuckoo Wrasse but no Bream were in sight. I did however manage to capture a Ballan Wrasse at this mark also.
We moved over to the Callig markand with a boat at anchor there we had to juggle our drifts around it and so we found the fishing ok but not great. During our drifts i did also manage to catch a cod which Skip Emmo kept for his tea.
The weather was not improving and with that in mind the decision was made to move North to the Bear Rock mark and try to give emmo a chance of catching me up as at this point i was leading 5-3 on species. Once there the conditions with the rain was not very nice, but Michael pulled another species back with the capture of a Ballan Wrasse.
From here we moved to a new mark that we had plotted before but had never fished, On arrival we thought that it was not going to produce any fish but michael picked up a Codling and a Bull Huss, i brought in a Red Gurnard and a Dogfish. This meanining that i was still two fish in front, it was then that the Mark paid off when the rod knocked and i wound in the suprise of the weekend a lovely John Dory.
The tide and time were against us now and so the descisionwas made for us , to make the flap gate we had to head in. The final result being 8-5 in my favour meant that i got my £ back and the weekend ended with honours even.
Although fishing was not as good today we still managed in the conditions to capture 9 different species which is not a bad thing.
Here are a couple of pictures
